Unplugged Cabins: Where you Can Go to Unwind

Too much screen time getting you down? Unplugged off-grid cabins might just be the antidote you have been looking for. Set in natural surroundings and cabins fitted out with sustainable principles in mind, Unplugged offers you a chance to pause, take a moment, and unwind.

It’s not surprising in the over-saturated world we live in, that Unplugged cabin escapes are more popular than ever. With a plethora of cabins to choose from in the UK, and now in Spain, the affordable cabins are just what the world needs, to slow down, unwind and take a moment away from tech.

Modern life has increasingly revolved around technology, with many feeling perpetually busy and tethered to their devices. The consequence is often burnout, brain fog, and a rise in conditions like anxiety and insomnia. Unplugged’s unique approach gives people the chance to step away from their screens and reconnect with themselves and their surroundings. Studies suggest that 72 hours is the optimal duration for experiencing the benefits of a digital detox, and Unplugged’s three-day retreats are designed precisely with this in mind.

Located within one to two hours from London, with future plans to expand, the cabins are perfect for those with busy schedules – workers, parents, and couples – who are seeking to recharge. Each cabin is nestled in idyllic, quintessentially British countryside, offering a natural environment that encourages a good night’s sleep, leaving you well rested and productively charged. The retreat’s founders, Hector Hughes, and Ben Elliot, designed the cabin experiences based on their own struggles with screen addiction and the associated mental fatigue of everyday life.

Providing opportunities to switch off is at the core of Unplugged

On arrival, guests lock away their digital devices for the duration of their stay. In exchange, they receive a retro Nokia mobile phone (complete with the classic game Snake), a physical map to explore the local area, and an instant camera with film to capture their moments. Each cabin is well-equipped for a peaceful, tech-free stay, offering a functioning kitchen, books, and board games for entertainment. In partnership with Calm, the world’s leading meditation and sleep app, the cabins also provide three of the platform’s popular Sleep Stories, narrated by celebrities such as Matthew McConaughey, Harry Styles, and Erik Braa. As part of the experience, there is no Wi-Fi, allowing guests to fully immerse themselves in their surroundings.

Hector Hughes, co-founder of Unplugged, emphasises the importance of disconnecting from digital distractions. He explains, “Unplugged is the first of its kind in the UK, offering a true digital detox for three nights that is easily accessible for city dwellers. We provide busy individuals with the opportunity to switch off – something we all need in today’s world.”

Screen-free time is the order of the day

Sustainability is at the core of Unplugged and it’s vision for a world where screen time is reduced and being in the natural environment is encouraged. Their cabins are powered entirely by solar energy. It doesn’t stop there though with the cabins being furnished with eco-friendly luxury brands, such as Piglet bedding and Dark Arts Coffee.

The interior is designed to maximise your views of nature. You can sit in one of the Unplugged cabins, book in hand, and warm coffee beside you while gazing out at the natural landscape.

Do you have a furry friend you’d like to bring with you on your nature escape? The Unplugged cabins have dog friendly options. Be careful though, both you and your pet might not want to return to the big city lights after staying in an Unplugged cabin, roaming free in the woodlands.

A minimalist aesthetic has been incorporated into the interiors of the cabins, to encourage visitors to pause, breathe and relax. While you might be Unplugged from the outside world, you will have modern facilities to make sure your stay is a comfortable one.

“50% of the UK’s adult population spends more than 11 hours a day behind a screen. We offer them a unique chance to step away from their devices, giving them the time to think, create, and achieve. What happens when you remove all distractions and truly switch off? You’re left with a recharged mind, a clearer perspective, and a sense of calm that has been missing.”
Hector Hughes
