Could you share the story behind the creation of Thirty Three Interiors? What inspired its inception?
Thirty Three Interiors was born out of a love of interiors, a fabric obsession and the need to be creative. I studied interiors, then went on to be an interior stylist and realised I wanted to create something special.
What core values define the identity of Thirty Three Interiors, and how do these influence your design approach?
I dislike waste of any kind. Unfortunately, this has become an inevitable part of life. I didn’t want the guilt of adding to this so the decision was made to be sustainable and source sustainable and recycled products and make them work as luxury creations.
What does the name Thirty Three Interiors mean? Is there a story behind it?
It has a story, but perhaps not the best one! It’s simply named after my house number and I called it Thirty Three “Interiors” as I didn’t want to limit the scope of the business to just lighting as I aim to branch out into a broader range of interior products in the future.
Your designs have a distinctive aesthetic. How would you describe your style, and what are its key influences?
I would define it as anything goes, anything that makes me happy, minimalist, maximalist I love it all. I don’t like to limit myself to a particular style as it is constantly evolving, although my love of nature is probably my biggest influence.
How do you strike a balance between creating timeless interiors and staying responsive to current trends?
I think if something is well-made and loved it remains timeless regardless of trends.
Sustainability is increasingly important in design. How do you incorporate eco-conscious practices into your work?
I source a lot of end-of-line, sustainably made, Oeko-Tex fabrics and designer remnants for my shades which otherwise might end up in landfill. Our lamp bases are made from recycled glass and we ship all our products using second hand cardboard boxes and packaging. We call it “preloved packaging!”
Do you prioritise sourcing local or sustainable materials? If so, how has this shaped your projects?
I always prioritise sourcing local fabrics. I strive to minimise environmental impact. My glass supplier complies with all Kyoto protocol aspects and international treaties that commit to reducing green house gases.
What challenges have you encountered in integrating sustainability into luxury interior design, and how have you overcome them?
Using only remnants and end of lines means there isn’t an unlimited supply, which can make fulfilling orders challenging. I luckily have understanding clients who are also committed to the cause.
Could you walk us through a project you’re particularly proud of? What made it stand out for you?
I pitched for a large project recently against more established companies and won the commission. I only started Thirty Three Interiors this year so I was delighted.
How do you ensure your designs reflect the personality and lifestyle of your clients while maintaining your unique touch?
I find that clients come to us because we are unique so our values are aligned from the start of the project.
Where do you find inspiration for your designs? Are there specific places, cultures, or eras that influence you the most?
Everywhere, I have a “lightbulb” moment looking at the most bizarre things. I am heavily influenced by nature, I am fascinated by cultures all around the world, their vibrancy, patterns, textures and colour.
What trends or shifts do you see shaping the future of interior design, and how are Thirty Three Interiors preparing to lead or adapt?
I see a future where sustainability comes before anything, and I have a good head start on that.
Do you have any upcoming projects or collaborations that you’re excited to share with us?
I have recently met a community of highly skilled artisans, woodworking, ceramics, and illustrators, all of which I am planning on collaborating with in the near future.
What does a typical day look like for the Thirty Three Interiors team?
Coffee first, check socials before I get out of bed and see if any new orders have come in overnight. I’ll take the dogs out into the beautiful copse behind our house and get inspired by nature. Then it’s back to the workshop, fulfilling orders, styling, content creation and fabric sourcing.
If you could offer one piece of advice to someone looking to redesign their space, what would it be?
Do it your way.
Can you give some examples of the products and services you offer?
I hand-make luxury lampshades and repurpose recycled glass vases into lamp bases. I have a selection of shades ready and available on my website, but I also create bespoke pieces for clients from fabric they have asked me to source. I work with interior designers helping to accessorise their projects.
