In addition to their anthologies, Rosie’s Disobedient Press supports emerging Scottish-based writers through their pamphlet series, offering opportunities for previously unpublished authors to create their first publications. Rosie’s Disobedient Press, an artist-led publishing project based in Glasgow, Scotland, focuses on amplifying marginalized voices, particularly those of queer, working-class, and feminist writers. The press operates as a private company limited by guarantee without share capital, indicating that it reinvests any profits back into its mission rather than distributing them as dividends.
The press has received support from organizations such as Jerwood Arts, which provided funding through the Jerwood New Work Fund in 2022 and the 1:1 FUND. This external funding enables Rosie’s Disobedient Press to undertake projects that align with its mission of promoting underrepresented voices in literature and art.
Additionally, the press generates revenue through the sale of its publications and related merchandise. By combining external funding with income from sales, Rosie’s Disobedient Press sustains its operations and continues to support marginalised writers and artists.
Since its inception in 2020, RDP has collaborated with a diverse array of writers and artists to produce publications that challenge conventional narratives and explore innovative forms of storytelling.
1. Sleeper (2021): This inaugural anthology features nine new writing commissions and two reprinted texts, all responding to themes of mechanics, cars, and journeys. Contributors include Francis McKee, Rebecca Tamás, Hussein Mitha, Juliet Jacques, Àkpà Árinzèchukwu, Adrien Howard, CAConrad, Renee Gladman, Lisette May Monroe, K. Patrick, and Hanif Abdurraqib.
2. Bodies Not Mine (2021): A pamphlet by K. Patrick, comprising 12 poems that traverse different seasons, engage with queer ephemera, and inhabit various bodies and the surrounding world.
3. Vegetal Soul (2023): Authored by Hussein Mitha, this work delves into themes of nature and existence, offering a unique perspective on the interconnectedness of life.
4. Teneu (2024): A collective project focusing on the mythology of Teneu, also known as St. Enoch, Glasgow’s forgotten medieval first mother and parent to St. Mungo, the city’s patron saint. This book features commissioned texts from nine artists and writers, including Lisette May Monroe, Adrien Howard, Helen Charman, Sasha Staicu, Joey Simons, Mason Leaver-Yap, Martha Adonai Williams, Francis Jones, and Joanna Stawnicka.
